Preamble

The NICOS Scientific Journal, Journal of Cosmetic Science and Research, embodies the NICOS motto – “Elevating African Beauty Through Science.”

The concept of a NICOS scientific journal originated during the official launch of NICOS in July 2020 in a panel discussion. It became apparent that there was a gap in Nigeria for a new scientific journal that should be easily accessible to all cosmetic stakeholders in the country.

The target groups were cosmetic scientific publishers from within and readers from within and outside Nigeria. These groups desired and deserved a very high-quality research or review work in areas of cosmetics and associated fields emanating from Nigeria, West Africa, whole of Africa. Today, NICOS Scientific Journal Group (SJG) and Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) comprise highly motivated internal and external groups of specialists and expert memberships. The SJG and EBA are dedicated to producing quality journal, of very high standard, with a uniqueness, financially competitive, readily accessible, to be rated by the stakeholders and interested parties as a ‘must read’.

Our Objective

The objective of the NICOS journal is to provide a platform for advancement and dissemination of knowledge about cosmetics in Nigeria. The main objective is to drive the cosmetic industry scientifically, especially for potential entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to have evidence-base that would enhance and continue their motivations.

Therefore, original research articles on cosmetic raw materials sourced within Nigeria mainly, and secondly West Africa and Africa, will be very favourably considered. Review articles that advance the knowledge on known indigenous resources are also welcomed.

Peer Review

The articles in the Journal of Cosmetic Science and Research are peer reviewed.

The peer reviews are conducted by both internal and external reviewers. Every author is requested to submit along with their article, a name(s) of an expert in the field of the article submitted.

General peer review process is as follows:

Accept – no revision required
Revise
Reject

Publication Timeline:

1 week – Date of submission to acknowledgement.
2 months – Peer Review.
2 weeks – Revision to final decision.
1 month – Final decision to ‘gally’ proof reading by author.

A Voice for Our Members

We are the Society of Cosmetic Scientists Nigeria, and the 50th member of the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC).

The primary aim of the Society is to promote the advancement of science and technology in the cosmetics and personal care industries in Nigeria and the diaspora.

We work by attracting membership among highly qualified individuals with both academic and industrial experience in the field of cosmetics and related sciences. We collaborate with institutions to advance the knowledge as well as through our activities including publications, educational programmes and scientific meetings.

Comprised of experts in the field of cosmetic science, technology and engineering, we provide a voice for our members during the consultation process in the areas that affect our industry. We are the scientific hub for Nigerian cosmetic scientists around the world.

We are a not-for-profit organisation, hence we are governed by our NICOS Council, a group of people appointed to make decisions in the interest of the Society. Council is made up of up to 7 ordinary members of the Society and 5 Officers of the Society who are all elected as Full Members of the Society.
